How do I join the squares on this pattern

I am making the following pattern http://www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/LW3946.pdf (
Tammy's Tunic) and I'm to the second part for second and successive motifs. I don't see how to join the squares. It says sc, ch 3, sc, ch5 join, sc, ch-3 join, sc and I'm guessing somehow this is to join them? Any help would be appreciated!

Wow! Thanks...I seem to always miss that step of reading the pattern: ) Would you hold the finished square you are joining in the front or back of the one you are working on? This has me a bit confused.

I would probably hold them with wrong sides together to do the joining round.  

 

in the chain 3 and chain 5 join, it sounds weird to drop the loop from the hook.  But don't worry, it will be fine, the loop won't go anywhere.  It makes a nice-looking join.
