Cowl help

Jessica Willy Anderson

Question

Hello,

I'm starting a cowl for my daughter. Never made one before so I'm curious on a few things. When you join your chain stitch do you want the V side facing out or in? And when you are crocheting, do you want to go under the top loop only or would you go under both? Hopefully those questions make sense. Thanks for your help.

if i understand your description, you want the v side facing out.

i usually go under the top 2 loops because it is more stable i think.  but you can go under only the top loop, or even into the back bump.  http://www.stitchdiva.com/tutorials/crochet/working-into-the-starting-chain  shows each method.   if you go into the back bump, it creates an edge that looks just like the top of your stitches, so this is good when you want the top and bottom edge to match http://www.craftydeb.com/tutorial02
