Need help in understanding this patterns

Lei Jamin

Question

I've encountered many patterns that looks like that and I'm always lost.

I know how to follow pattern that has only words on it, but I don't know how to read a pattern that has drawings of what looks like the actual output. I don't understand the drawing at all. I don't know where to start and what to do.

Please Help Me T.T I want to crochet many wearable projects T.T

the answer to your question is to learn what each symbol represents; as you say they look like the stitches so it is not difficult for most people to learn.

This blog has a good intro that shows clearly how the symbols relate to the stitches http://www.craftyminx.com/2011/11/crochet-school-lesson-21-reading-crochet-charts.html

Alist of more symbols http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/chart_crochet.html

the pattern you are looking at has a more complicated than usual beginning due to the neck shaping.  You will need to learn the symbols and practice them in a simpler pattern first.  this would be a good one for practice http://www.anniescatalog.com/crochet/content.html?content_id=708&type_id=S&source=kcnow&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=knitandcrochetnow

the pattern is from Pierrot yarn co. and their English patterns are here http://gosyo.shop.multilingualcart.com/free1.php

at the bottom of that page there is a link to all the symbols and videos of how to do each stitch.

http://dancingbarefoot.wordpress.com/japanese-pattern-tutorials/  has an indepth tutorial on using Japanese patterns.
