Has anyone made crochet cardigan 20 in the 171 pattern book? I am having terrible trouble with the graph and the garment just isn't looking right - cannot see how it is going to go together - help would be greatly appreciated!!

I don't have that book, but someone else may.  you can type out a bit of the pattern if you are stuck on a certain spot, so we can try to help decipher it.  You can post a photo of what you have made if you want advice on whether it seems to look right.
