Pattern help please!

Curlydude

Question

Hi everyone, I'm new! ;-) I wondered if someone would kindly help me with this pattern...

I'm teaching myself to crochet and have made a few bits so far. I've just started the Crochet Sisters teddy bear baby hat, and have hit a stumbling block!

I'm up to round 6, and it says this...

Rnds 6-8: Ch 3, dc into previous dc. *Sk 1 dc, dc into next dc. Dc into skipped dc. Repeat from* around. Sl st to join. (54 sts)

I am confused as to how I dc into the previous stitch. Does it mean the stitch before the chain? I assume it makes some sort of criss-cross pattern, but it just seems to look tangled! Could anyone help please?!

Thank you!

I've seen a picture of the hat but not the actual pattern.  The has has crossed double crochets and that is where you're getting confused.

Because you are working in the round, they want the crossed doubles to look the same across the entire hat.  So yes, you're going to make that first double crochet in the space before your chain.  Once you continue on the row, it's going to show the X's.
