stitch nation cardigan pattern help

Hello all!

I need a little help on a pattern. I consider myself to be a fairly intermediate crocheter, but this is my first clothing piece. Im stuck on the following line :

ch 2, skip next (ch-1 space, dc)

I understand the space, just not sure about the parenthesis, skip next and do whats in parenthesis in what?

when you see parentheses, you treat what is inside them as one operation.  in this case, what is inside the parentheses is what you are to skip.  so after you chain 2, you skip the next chain 1 space, and also skip the next dc.  

 

then proceed with whatever the pattern says to do next.
