DK & worsted

Hi, so after a bit of research i have established that UK Aran is the closest to US worsted but DK is a bit more affordable for me so my question is :

 

If i use DK instead of Aran but i switch to the next size up hook, will it make it up ?

 

I know i could add some extra stitches but i  am pretty new to crochet so i would rather not have to do that yet.  It is mainly to make baby hats and shoes.

Hi there!

Yes, it should do but it would be looser - thinner yarn, thicker hook, bigger stitches. Stylecraft, King Cole and James C.Brett do cheap 100g Aran (under £2 or a few pence over). Have a look at Deramores. I like to use Stylecraft or Sirdar Super Soft when I need Aran.
