Your first row has 138 sc.  Your first row of crossed dcs  uses 4 dc for each crossed dc( 3 dc and 1 dc crossing back over the first 3 dc).  You need one stitch at the beginning of the row and one stitch at the end of the row that are not used in the crossed dc pattern.  You will have 34 crossed dc groups and one stitch at the beginning and one stitch at the end of the row.  If you wanted to make your afghan wider, you could use any number that when divided by 4 would have a remainder of 2.
