Can't Read Patterns?

Recommended Posts

I used to not know how to read charts and actually (gasp!) repeatedly walked away from inexpensive Magic Crochet magazines on the newsstands! The charts looked so crazy and I didn't like not having written instructions. Somewhere in there I actually paid attention to the Legend, which is the key to what those symbols mean, and realized the charts were simple visualizations of what to do. Now I prefer 'em. If I really want to make something from a written pattern I will sigh and do it, but I have to really want that design to do it anymore.

My point is this: to learn anything you have to apply yourself. Neither the written instructions nor the charts made sense to me at first. Just like moving the hook and yarn through the stitches, I had to learn how to do it. So does everyone else. That's just part of becoming a reasonably proficient crocheter. :)
