need help with pattern instruction....

Hi.. i hv a dress pattern which i would like to crochet... but im a beginner and i dont quite understand the instruction....would anyone mind checking if my understanding of the instruction is correct???below is the instruction

 

1) with hook, ch 52 + 3 to turn, to measure 7 1/4inch. starting from 5th st from hook, work in dc, inc at each edgeand on each row 8 sts 2x and 9sts 4x = 156 sts in all.

 

ch 52 + 3 to turn, to measure 7 1/4inch... 7 1/4inch is measurement of the chains or after a first row of dc is done??

 

inc at each edgeand on each row 8 sts 2x and 9sts 4x = 156 sts in all.... inc at each edge = a total of 9sts on one st at the beg and end of each row for the first 2 rows??

 

2) at each edge leave unworked 5 sts 1x , then leave unworked 4x: *3 sts 1x and 2 sts 1x*, cut thread, and put piece aside...

 

for this part of the instruction... i dun understand at all.. would anyone mind explaining please??? would very much appreciate it....

By leaving those last few stitches unworked, you will be decreasing. It should become evident after you do a few rows.
