Blocking ribbed legwarmers

I'm making my baby some legwarmers out of superwash wool yarn.

Can I block it by steaming it even if it's ribbed?

 

At the moment, it is so stiff it can literally stand up by itself!

 

I read somewhere not to block ribbed designs....

Washing them should relax them some. Then throw them in the dryer or lay out and lightly block them to the size you want. Just don't stretch the ribbing out.
