How do I make this fabric?

I have a piece that measures 5 inches by 24 inches. It is made with little motifs one inch wide. Each motif has six loops circled once in the center. Each loop goes to the center of another motif. Each loop is triple so the fabric is quite thick and soft. It is made with variegated baby yarn.

 

My friends and I cannot figure out how it is made. Can anyone identify the pattern and help us?
