help reading a pattern

Recommended Posts

I need help reading a pattern. For as many years I've done this, I've never seen this before. Hope someone can help! Here is where my problem is:

Rnd 1: work 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook

Rnd 2: and every even- numbered roundthrough Rnd 24: Work even in sc.

Rnd 3: Work 2 sc in next sc, sc 3 - 5 sc.

what does "work even in sc mean"? No matter what I do, I end up with too many stitches.

Working in even crochet means that you do not increase, you just put a sc in each sc around on the even rows....the increases come on the odd numbered rows.

Example:

row 2 - 4 - 6 - 8 - 10, etc are all worked in even crochet (sc in each sc around)

rows 3 - 5 - 7 - 9 - 11, etc, you work your increases or what ever the pattern says to do.

I hope this helps.
