Drafting silk for a scarf...

Recommended Posts

How much trouble have I gotten myself into? :D

I was the Sewing and Stitchery expo a month ago and fell in LOVE with this gorgeous purple silk. After sitting and talking to one of the girls at that store I decided I wanted it and could make something with it. Since I don't spin, (I have no idea where to even start with that) she suggested drafting the yarn, which (as explained to me) is just slightly pulling the silk to get it to the width I want and then just crochet it like normal.

I found this old thread, but it seems more specific to wool... http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=81124&highlight=drafting

I guess my biggest concern with drafting is how forgiving it may or may not be. I'm still learning and have no idea what size hook I should use and what width to make the silk...

Should I just have someone spin it for me into something not quite-so-terrifying? Be honest, I can handle it. :lol
