B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!! Thanks for the pattern link! I didn't realize that it was made in 1 piece, I assumed that they were individual squares that you joined. I don't know that I would have the patience to make it in 1 piece, I dislike long rows - it makes me feel like I'm not getting anywhere

I prefer making afghans in piece, too, though this one-piece afghan didn't have me as bored as many of them. It would be pretty easy to break down the pattern into squares then sew or crochet them together. You could do a round of popcorns around each letter on each square to get the same look. I've made an afghan with kitties done in popcorns -- from a Leisure Arts Year of Afghans book.
