Herringbone rope-- diagram of stitch added

Herringbone Rope -- free crochet pattern

My eldest has the same tendency as I do: busy hands. So during church, we both crochet. This is a stitch he made up when he was 6. It is very useful when you want to make a decorative chain for a pull on a hood or drawstring on a purse.

Form slip knot and place on your hook.

Yarn over 3x (4 loops on hook).

Pull three loops through the loop that is closest to your hand on the hook (3 loops on hook).

*Yarn over 1x (4 loops on hook).

Pull three loops through the loop that is closest to your hand on the hook (3 loops on hook).*

Repeat*to* for desired length.

To finish off:

Do not yarn over.

Pull 2 loops through the loop closest to your hand. (2 loops on hook).

Do not yarn over.

Pull 1 loop through the loop closest to your hand (1 loop on hook.)

Chain 1. Cut yarn and pull through the last chain.

Enjoy! I have had a number of email qs about this stitch, so I have put together a diagram to show how it is done. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BiZj2IyM6Iw/Sdv9jhAHWyI/AAAAAAAAAUU/vIpRoGKXqrg/s1600-h/herrignbone.jpg I hope the helps with any confusion! Sarah
