Thistle Stitch

Ok I'm wondering does anybody know where to go to learn how to do the thistle stitch other than lionbrand since they don't say how many to chain thanks for the help

Here is a trick when you aren't sure of the pattern repeat or are too lazy to count (hey, sometimes a pattern says 'chain a zillion' and I don't know about you, but I'm always interrupted when trying to count):

 

Make a chain a little longer than you want.

 

Turn, work the pattern as long as you want the piece to be. Turn again, leaving a little tail of extra chains.

 

After you are done, you can pick out the extra chain stitches; the piece won't ravel.
