The sign has been in this area for a couple of weeks, however, I wish they would fill the bins that are empty:yarn. I am going to have a hard time waiting for Spring....like a child on Christmas morning :lol

hmm I didn't notice the signs when I went last week, I was probably too tunnel visioned staring at the yarn lol. I love the 40% off coupons they give went you buy stuff, it keeps me going back each week to use it.

not only that, but it is the narrowest possible aisle, and they're always parking their stands in that area. about every other trip I have to move that blankety-blank stand out of the way.

Too funny, the yarn in my Michael's is in the same dark, far corner by the stockroom door!

I read this post last week and was finally able to get to the store and I too saw the signs. It's funny because the last time I was in Michael's the manager said they were shrinking the yarn department :think.

I just hope they stock some more Bernat Berella, and soon!

Well, had a few minutes at lunch so I strolled into my Michael's, and sure enough, they had the same signs out. I guess most of their stores must be designed alike! The yarn section is in the back corner, by the stockroom at my Michael's, too :lol Their selection really isn't that great, though...seems like ours is mostly novelty yarns and baby yarns. I love the Bernat Berella 4 yarn, but they don't stock it. They might bring it in for huge sales, but then its gone. Hopefully they'll keep some on hand now!

  • 4 weeks later...

Anyone see anything new on this?

I haven't been to my Micheals in about a week and a half because last time I went they had almost no yarn, the bins were empty and walmart is carrying more red heart colors, but not much else, so I hope Micheal's carries other yarns...

I read somewhere that they will be phasing out the novelty yarns, increase their hook/knitting needle selection, and begin carrying their own brand of yarn. I'm curious to see what it will be like, and how much it will cost!

My local Michael's still has lots of yarn. They are trying really hard to get rid of the novelty yarns, though...they have most all of them in clearance bins. They have their signs up but I've seen no real change yet.

I sure hope to see a positive change soon locally.

It's been nothing but negative here at Michael's I'm afraid. They went from 5 aisles of yarn to 2. At first I thought they were just going to change to different types of yarn. Instead, they replaced the aisles of yarn with a total different product type (photo frames, etc), all of it permanent.

They have also completely stopped selling craft books and magazines, and remove the shelves from the store. I do not think the future of the store looks good, especially considering the Wal-Mart down the street remodeled recently and its craft department expanded. Its news yarn area knocks the socks off Michaels.

My Michaels in SoCal has the signs too. Once again in a far back corner of the store. I hardly go to Michaels for yarn though. Everytime something is on sale it's out of stock. Only things left are skeins with the middles pulled out and no wrappers :( Maybe if they got a better selection it would be different.

Seems like they are heavy on the frame and floral departments though. I never see anyone buying it though so weird.

Saw the sign here, too, but my friend who works over there was out that day, so I couldn't find out what was coming. (The other staff in my Michael's are pretty clueless.) Waiting with bated breath like everyone else...
