graph afghans single crochet newbies and oldhatters

I know there was a thread for tusanian ones but this is for single crochet ones, or half double crochet ones as some prefer. I was hoping to attract newbies and people who have done umpteen numbers of graph ghans. I am new to the process. I have gotten much advise and read up alot on the clinic section, there is a sticky there on graph ghans and a thread started by me with questions. The sticky is very good with several threads on doing graph afghans. So I encourage everyone to start rolling your bobbins or what ever you use and join in with me. I have three to do, hope to have company for at least the first one, I am a bit nervous. So come join the fun!

NOTE FROM ADMIN: Many people like to make graph ghans featuring characters or logos that are trademarked and/or copyrighted. We have some very specific forum guidelines relating to this issue. Before posting in this thread, please be sure to read POST #25 for more information. Thank you for helping us keep this site free of legal troubles related to contributory trademark and/or copyright infringement.

Goodie! Some to work with! Welcome krazykitty.I have got clothes pins for my bobbins, recomended by Krystal, and my sticky notes, extra sticky, for keeping track of rows, my ink pens for writing out the row count and keeping track, just have to find a note book now, it's here some where. I need to reroll my balls onto the clothes pins. I am on row seven of the border rows of one color. It's going to be of a football helmet and the words are you ready for some football. It's blue and grey, white and black, for the detroit Lions. Yes, I know they lost all their games this past years season, but they are still my brother in laws favorite team. unicorn you want to do one in single crochet now right? :-)

I have one that I need to make for a wedding gift. I will jump in on this CAL although I don't think I am going to start it for a week or so. Have a couple of baby afghans I need to make, a WIP I gotta finish and a couple of scarves. The scarves can be carry alongs. The WIP will probably wait but the baby afghans need to get done now!!!!LOL

I like the witch picture that should do nicely in another color. Yes everyone is invited to join. Happy to have everyone. I know That other crocheting needs to get done too, I have at least three projects going of crochet and one in mind for knit or two at least. Glad to see you all! I am ready to roll the yarn on to the clothes pins but other crochet got in the way, I am done with the initial blue. I guess BIL's are lucky this year!

I have never used bobbins. I have a cake maker and roll my yarn into cakes and then put them in quart size zip type baggies. I also have a magnetic board and bought a roll of magnetic strip and use that to mark my the row that I am in. If you are going to use a marker to mark your place be sure to make a photo copy of your pattern first and use the photo copy.

I will be in with you on this in a week or so.

Well I was part of the Tunisian CAL from 2007 I believe but I never finished my project. Its a blanket of a Mid Ship Runabout emblem for my son. ( that's a car BTB ) I am in another CAl right now, and if I pick this up right away, I will never get back to the other one. Single minded brain here, so once I am finished with the Irish scarf style jacket, I will join you guys here.

Krazy Kitty.... purple would be a perfect border color if the gold is more orange than yellow I think. Just a suggestion. I had halloween roses once that were dyed purple and orange they were stunning.

I have tried three times to respond to this thread and it hasn't worked out. I will keep it short and sweet. And not include half of what I did before. One thing. If we could think of a question to ask each other as kind of a get to know you kind of thing that would be great. First question- I know where everyone is but can you tell me something unique about your home town. For me, we live on lake Michigan which is huge and kind of like living by the ocean. We have beautiful sunsets and it's fun to watch the storms wash in. We also get huge tons of snow because of the lake effect. It's forty five minutes to the lake from our house, that's the other side of town for us.

Okay, I live in central Texas. Transplanted from Minnesota 21 years ago.

We have Hills, Trees and Green grass. ( something I never seen watching movies of Texas.):lol I thought it was flat and tumbleweeds..

Lake Travis is 10 minutes away. Austin is about an hour away. (Hook em' Horns) Weather is okay, warm in the winter some cold days, Ice storm every winter (atleast one). Snow once in a few years..Hot in the summer(really hot)..But it's home..:D

But on the ghan note..

My is growing slowly.. Seem like it takes longer to do a row...

Here's a pics of my work of this week..

Beautiful so that's how the letters are supposed to look. LOL, mine didn't, that's why it got ripped out. My brother in law and his wife and family live in Texas. They say it's real hot. I don't like too hot. I hope you have air conditioning. I had to put mine aside to finish a valentine scarf for a banquet on valentines day, almost done then I can start again on the afghan.

I am from south-east Texas, and moved up north to northern NJ about 26 years go. I still miss Texas. I do have a ranch out by Dodge TX but don't get home as much as I would like to. Town were I live now is about 11 miles from NYC. It is a crowded place with everyone rushing everywhere in a hurry and no time to do anything. It is the great melting pot of nationalities, and many do not speak english, so they tend to stick to there own. It's funny in a way, as I do not live in Texas yet I do know all of my neighbors down there and get regular emails from a few to keep me in touch with what is going on in our area. When I am in town, we ( the neighborhood ) go to Jose's for dinner every Friday night.

I have lived in this town for 13 years and only know three of my neighbors to say Hi or wave. Usually when they getting into their cars to go somewhere.

I was out there (NYC) for 3 month for a job.. Didn't like it. Tooooo many people. Always moving to fast...Down here more of a slower pace to things. And a trip to the mailbox can take an hour. Stopping to talk to your neighbors.. We have 375 acre ranch between Santa Fe and Albuquerque.. Only get up there twice a year or unless something goes wrong with something...

Hello everyone. I will soon be starting on my graph-ghan of Dora the Explorer for my neice. Actually, I had to start it last week just to see how it would go. I did 11 rows of border and 5 of the graph. I made myself put it aside to complete my round ripple WIP. I have either 7 or 14 rows of the RR left depending on the size after the first 7 rows.

The first 5 graph rows went fairly well. I noticed that it is very easy to get off if you are not extra careful. I have started at her feet and will be working up.

I'm giving myself about 2 weeks to complete the RR. After that I can focus on Dora and hope to be a part of the group.

I am a married, working, mother of 2. We live in NW Louisiana and it gets hot and sticky here. I have spent a year in KC, MO and 3 years in Houston. Other than that, I have lived here my whole life. The biggest attraction here are the riverboat casinos. Sam's Town, Harrah's, ElDorado, Boomtown and Diamond Jacks. I think those are all the current names, they keep changing them. We don't gamble and don't go for the entertainment so the names don't really matter too much.

Anyway, once I get the round ripple complete I hope to jump right in and join the group.

filet crochet and graph ghans are two seperate things right??

Chris, I owe you for the links! Have grandkids right now so kind of hard to get to involved in this at the moment.

Honey Dew, I will probably get stuff Saturday or Sunday.... I guess I have to be patient :( Not my strong point LOL

K. A little about me.

I live in Iowa. I am married with 4 boys. Only one of them is still at home though.

Love to crochet. I have wayyyyyy to much yarn and am working through the stashbusting CAL to try to downsize a bit.

I also love to make graph ghans. My first a few years ago was really trying for me, but, after the first few rows I absolutely loved it.

If my count is right I have made 9 or 10 graph ghans.

I also got a couple of rows done last night on the ghan for this cal. It is going to be a wedding present for my sisters step daughter.

There are many places with free graph ghan patterns. However, many of these sites feature patterns of trademarked/copyrighted characters/logos/images/etc without having the appropriate licensing arrangements or other permission in place from the trademark/copyright owners. To protect our site from legal issues related to contributory trademark/copyright infringement, Crochetville only allows links to sites with patterns of trademarked/copyrighted characters/images/etc. IF the site specifically states that they have the appropriate licensing or othe permisison in place for ALL their patterns. If the site does not make this statement, then we cannot allow links to it.

Many sites that we cannot allow links to have been added to our filters, and we add more all the time. When a site is in our filters, any link to it posted will not work and will appear with a bunch of ***** in the URL. If you post a link and this happens, please edit your post to remove the URL and any reference to the site in your post that might help others find it.

Oh, this information applies to posts, private messages, and email to other Crochetville members.

One other thing: if you've made your own graph of something that is trademarked/copyrighted, please don't post a photo of your graph here, for the same reasons as given above.

Thank you all for helping us keep Crochetville free from legal troubles!
