base ch/sc ?????

Question

Can someone please help me??

Lion brand instructions "This method creates a base chain and foundation row of sc at the same time: easy, sturdy, and elastic, especailly useful for necklines and waistlines.

Start with a slip knot, ch 2, insert hook in 2 nd ch from hook, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 1 loop, yo and draw through 2 loops- 1 single chrochet with it's own chain at bottom. (THAT WAS THE EASY PART, HERE'S WHERE I GET LOST) Work next stitch under loops of that chain. Insert hook unjder 2 loops at bottom of the prevoius stitch, draw up a loop, yo and draw through 1 loop, yo and draw through 2 loops. Repeat for length of foundation(241 stitches.)

I am using chenille yarn (per instructions) and this adds to the confusion because stitches are really hard to see... Plus, I have not crocheted in years and I am self taught... So, I am not very good at it. Pictures would help! A sketch, diagram, or just simple, first grader instructions!!!!!

I emailed Lion yarn, but, they basically just repeated their printed instructions... no help at all!!! smile

THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

First I would recommend practicing the stitch on regular light colored yarn. I tried it once in chennile and couldn't do it. It does make a nice base though once you get it down =)

Let me see if I can do a picture thing for ya.... give me a little bit =) A good excuse to use my new camera! Woohooo =)

mmouseplus.gif Here is a tutorial for you. It's well worth mastering. It makes a nice stretchy foundation chain that's great for clothing items and also helps eliminate the too short foundation chain issue that sometimes occurs.

mmouseplus.gifGlad to have helped out. I think this foundation stitch is the greatest thing since sliced bread and tend to use it whenever possible. It's far easier to count when making long chains, I think. Old eyes ain't what they used to be! :D
