Well that was so not cool. I had my reply all ready to hit the add reply button and our power goes out! Apparently the whole base power went out. I wasnt sure if it was going to go out again so I left the computer off for a while.

Anyhow, what I had said was that my almost 2 yr old has an 18" head circ., while my 4 yr old has a 19 1/2" head circ, but my 6 yr old has a 19" head circ. I think it depends on if she's a big girl or a petite girl (my 4 yr old weighs only a lb less than my 6 yr old!). I would make the cap/hat 18 1/2" (at the end of the hat where it goes around the forehead) for a 3 yr old because they tend to stretch a good inch also.

I just measured my daughters head circumferences today for a "cowgirl" hat fitting. My two year old has a 19 1/2" circumference, while my 4 year old has a 20 3/4" circumference. Chelle's advice is good. :) Go for about 18 1/2" knowing that you'll have some stretch.

WOWSER!! My sister just told me that my niece of 4 months has a 17 inch head circumference!!! And apparently her height is off the charts for a 4 month old. With her growth rate I will have to make very stretchy things!!!

I just have to get into this conversation about hat size.

I was making a hat for my 21 year old daughter. My 2 1/2 year old nephew was staying at my house for the day. Being silly, he put it on. It fit! So my 2 1/2 year old nephew wears the same size hat as my 21 year old daughter. About 20 inches in circ. And yes, my daughter complains that her head is too small.

My girls are almost off the charts when it comes to their height (95+ percentile), but average in weight, so their heads might be a little bigger than average. :) They take after their dad's family, not me. I fully expect them to pass up my 5'3" before high school. :eek2
