I'm going to have to dig out my library card and visit my library and see if they have any crochet/knit books.

I hardly ever go to the library.

I tied all of mine together into two big balls regaurdless of color or even weight. I even left the knots and enmds hanging . then using a big hook I used both balls at the same time and made two big floor mats. I use them under my cots in my tent They protect the tent floor from my cot feet and my feet from the cold .

Be blessed

I have a basket that I toss them all into. I've recently begun working them up into tunisian squares and little round freeform bits. I also use them to make scrunchies (love to use leftover fun fur for those, but all yarns are good for them lol) butterflies, washcloths, towel toppers, small purses and bags... any small project. Heck, my son is even hitting me up to whip out some sleeping bags and such for his GI Joe guys.

Here's a picture of my bits n pieces stash, with my BB girl napping in the middle of it lol.

Here are a couple of great "leftovers" projects:

Or maybe donate them to your local elementary school. It seems my kids teachers are always asking for craft items to be donated especially around the holidays. When I finish a project and go back to cut off all my loose ends, I add them to my stash I keep in a large ziploc baggy and then send them to school with my kids when the letters comes home.

Yarncat, I love your hat!

And Mickie, I wish I could see your scrap rugs. They sound great!

Scraps are great for Freeform, I've even used granny squares with other freeform motifs (like circles, spirals, bobbles, etc.) in a shawl.

Here are some of my favorite sites, you may have seen them before, because there just aren't that many FF sites around. We need more!

http://www.knotjustknitting.com (Prudence Mapstone's site. I learned to FF from her book!)

http://www.elegantcrochet.com (check out her one color baby afghan.)

http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group.FFCrochet/ (an inspiring group of people!)

http://www.myrawood.com (she's moderator of the FFC Yahoo group).

Have fun!

Kim (in So. CA)

I tend to use mine for two different things, neither as exciting as some the great ideas posted here... LOL!

1. Snuggles for animal shelters

2. Warm Up America squares

With scraps of yarn I make lots of things! Here are just a few - colorful snuggles for animal shelters, granny's daughters and squares for future afghans, hats, coasters, washcloths/dishcloths (if they are cotton scraps), scrunchies, and potholders! :)

Funny I should read this, I just cleaned out my yarn tote this morning and have a bunch of 1-to-2-inch yarn balls hanging around...I'm going to work them into granny's daughter's and send them to Crochet Crone for her charity projects.

I am in the process (looooong process) of crocheting those balls into granny squares. I'm using an I hook and only doing three rounds, which for me makes about 4". Then when I get a stash of grannies, I'm going to edge them in the same color, fasten them together, add the border and depending on how many I use, donate the afghan/lapghan to a place yet undetermined. And you'll be suprised how little yarn goes into a 4" square. I made over 30 with one set of leftovers and after edging, it's a nice sized lapghan.

Project Linus is always looking for "blanketeers". Try this web site http://www.projectlinus.org and look for a chapter near you. My mom quilts for them and collects blankets from locals to pas on. I've made quite few myself.

wow- crocheters seem to share one mind, cuz I was just thinking about this.

I had all my schniblets in a stash box, but got

irked today, and sat down

and just wound them into one big ball.

I plan to make a scrappy granny ghan with them.

My idea is just to keep adding until I'm ready to stitch 'em up ;)

I think that scumble crochet. It's good for free style also. There is a book with patterns for what's called "scrapghans". I like the granny square idea best. I make alot of baby afghans with scraps for Project Linus, check it out at http://www.projectlinus.org.

I made squares for Warm Up America, even helped put them together a couple of times. It's a great way to meet other crafters and help people at the same time.

When I have little bits of yarn left over, I stick them in a clear vase and cover it at the top. That way whenever i look at it I can remember all the fun projects that i have done!

Also I have seen ideas for scraps for art projects for kids. Covering eggs for Easter, cans that could be used as pencil holders, etc...

I guess this would be a good place for this post. What I'm talking about are the little pieces (tails) that are left. Save them and use them to make a pillow. They make a great stuffing material and are washable and dryable (is that a word?). They won't bunch up.

I make granny squares with every little extra piece. I try to make 6 inch or 12 inch squares and send them to Heartmade Blessings (www.heartmadeblessings.org).

I also make scrap hats for the schools here. I take what colors I have and blend them. I try to make them as colorful as possible for the children. Then for the girl's hats...I edge it in fun fur.

I've heard of make scrap socks and toys for children out of the scraps.

Lots of small projects out there ....just need a little bit of yarn.

I make scrapghans out of them for charities and also booties. I try to keep a stock of booties in the car so when I go to yard sales (or where ever)I can give a pair to anyone I see or speak with who is expecting. It is so much fun to give someone something when they least expect it. I've also made a lot of scrap yarn hats, caps & mittens for underpriveledged children.
