Yarn Untwisting....

hello, all. i'm very new to spinning...actually, i haven't even done it yet (my ordered drop spindle should be in in maybe a week or so)

but i have taken fibers and hand twisted a short string of yarn. when i let go of either/both ends, it untwists... so much that the string is now reverted back to fiber.

how do u keep from your yarn doing this?

also, do different types of fiber not do this?

or is it all about how well you spun in and all that?

While spinning/spindling the twisted fiber is kept under tension. This prevents the fiber from untwisting. When you have removed the twisted fiber (yarn) from the bobbin and tie it off, there is usually enough length to keep it twisted. You then need to 'set the twist' by place it in water. (Be sure you have your skein tied off in multiple places!!)

The very best video online (imho) for spindling is by Abby. check it out!
