Question

I found a pattern on ravelry I am wanting to do. It is the South Park caps and here is what the directions say. I figure it is all right to post the directions since the pattern is available for free download. I put in bold the directions I am having trouble with. Can someone please help me understand what hdc-inc means?

Rnd 1. With MC, ch 3, 12 hdc in 3d ch from hook. Rnd 2. *1

hdc, hdc-inc* repeat to end, join to top of ch-2 (18 hdc). Rnd 3.

Ch 2, *2 hdc, hdc-inc*, repeat to end, join to top of ch-2 (24

hdc). Rnd 4. Ch 2, *3 hdc, hdc-inc*, repeat to end, join to top

of ch-2 (30 hdc). Rnd 5. Ch 2, *4 hdc, hdc-inc*, repeat to end,

join to top of ch-2 (36 hdc). Rnd 6. Ch 2, *5 hdc, hdc-inc*, re-

peat to end, join to top of ch-2 (42 hdc). Rnd 7. Ch 2, *6 hdc,

hdc-inc*, repeat to end, join to top of ch-2 (48 hdc). Rnd 8. Ch

2, *7 hdc, hdc-inc*, repeat to end, join to top of ch-2 (54 hdc).

Rnd 9-18. Ch 2, hdc in each hdc to end, join to top of ch-2 (54

hdc). Join CC/break MC. Rnd 19-22. Ch 2, hdc in each hdc to

end, join to top of ch-2 (54 hdc). Rnd 23. Ch 1, sc in each hdc to

end, join to ch-1, fo (54 sc). Weave in ends.

THANKS!

Hdc-inc means half-double-crochet-increase. Unless there is a specific special stitch instruction, the basic increase method is to do 2 of the same stitch into the same space. So every time it says hdc-inc you would do 2 hdc in that stitch.

:)

To me hdc-inc would mean to half double crochet increase. On rnd 1 you have 12 hdc and on rnd 2 it says to do 1 hdc and hdc inc repeat to end with 18 hdc in this round. If you do 1 hdc then 2 hdc in the next stitch and repeat till the end of rnd you would increase by 6 stitches in this round having the 18 hdc you would need.
