I have a friend looking for something to wear with a fancy spaghetti strap dress for a christmas party on the 12th...... it is black and has some bead work on it. I was thinking of making a shawl or wrap for the occasion. Any suggestions on a quick pattern and what type of yarn would go with the event.... I am really hoping to pull this off, any suggestion you have would be welcomed. Thank you all in advance. :think :think :think:eek :eek :eek

How about the Seraphina? (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74666) It would be lovely with Paton's Lacette.

Or the Crochet Dude's Crochet Lacy Shawl ? The bamboo recommended would be delicious!

I think in this case, a stole would be appropriate.

How about the Serendipity? That would be a very quick work, especially using a fingering weight yarn, like Paton's Brilliant in a color to match the beadwork, or perhaps something to complement the dress if the beads are black.

I am making myself the wrap from the cover of "Glamour Wraps" leaflet, shown here...

http://www.herrschners.com/products/sku-340041.html

Mine is done in a burgundy color, using RH Plush/TLC Amore yarn. It looks so Christmas-y! It's super simple and quick. I found my leaflet locally at WalMart, and have seen it as well at the other craft store chains.

My other thought would be a Mobius Wrap, with the twist in the front, such as the one here...

or here...

If it was me I'd love to wear the "Evening Shawl", the pic only shows a small detail of the stitching but I saw a picture of the finished shawl here (it's triangular) a few months ago and it was beautiful. The yarn specified is equivalent to #3 thread and you could get away using baby yarn, Bernat Coordinates which has a shiny nylon thread would make it look glamorous, I just made my sister a poncho in it and although I do not really like ponchos I love looking at it! Pattons Brilliant (or similar) which has a silver thread would be equally or even more elegant.

But if you prefer to make something quicker and perhaps more practical, how about this Moebius wrap? I also like Chanson en Crochet...

How about the simply shawl pattern if you want a stole-type pattern or CroJulee's angel wing pattern if you want a triangular type shawl? Both patterns work up quickly. I agree that Paton's Brilliant would be very pretty. A bit of sparkly, light enough to look somewhat lacy and with a nice drape to it. You're a good friend to want to do this. Post a pic for us to see, maybe with your friend wearing it, when you're done. Good luck.

:clap It has been decided. My friend went through all of my patterns, books, and magazines and decided on the "Dipped in Gold" caplet, page 54, Crochet! September 2006. She picked Flash yarn from Plymouth Yarn in a darker green color. We provide pic when finished. Has to be done by Thurs eve. Wish me luck.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I can always count on the Ville for guidance and support.
