Hats, scarves and mittens Cal

Super Granny

Recommended Posts

I just got a phone call from the secretary of my granddaughters school... we have known her for over 30 years... she went to school with my husband... She asked me if it would be possible for me to make some hats, scarves and mittens for her to have on hand for the little ones who have none... I'm not posting this as a Charity as I'm just one of many she has doing this for her.... but I could use some encouragement especially when it gets tedious... I saw that some others have tried to go into the hat a week Cal from ' 06 so if you would like to join me we can check the free sites and post links and help each other find interesting hats etc and help each other ...

Hi Shelly,

I'm working on several hats, scarves, and mittens for family Christmas gifts. I'd love some company and some pattern suggestions. If it fits with the CAL I'll be making more hats and scarves after the New Year too,

so please count me in.

Happy crocheting,

this is the first hat that I'm working on .. I'll be making them as long as there is cold weather and there are little ones with cold hands and heads...

while looking up this pattern I found one I'm going to make for my oldest DD.

Great pattern! I made that set for my neighbor/friend for Christmas last year. It came out great and worked up fast (if I remember correctly).

I'm making a scarf right now for my sister for Christmas. It's not a free pattern but I loved it when I saw it at http://www.nexstitch.com/pat_gemma.html

I splurged on some very nice wool/silk from

http://www.knitpicks.com/Gloss%20Lace%20Yarn_YD5420172.html

and the splurge wan't all that bad at 3.99! I really need to get this one done so I can move on to a few other gifts I want to make.

I'm in!! I have several people for Christmas that I have no idea what to buy/make. I've been tossing around the idea for hat/scarf set for a while but now that there is a CAL I think I will. I will check around for some cute hat patterns in a bit and post what I am going to make. :yarn

I love this scarf pattern, I use an entire skein (also great for stash reduction)

Any way here is the pattern for the scarf, have not tried the hat, but it looks great.

PS when using a verigated yarn the pooling of colors is quite lovely :hook

Here is a simple scarf pattern that I have made many of:

http://www.fuzzygalore.biz/patterns/crochet_v.shtml

I love this pattern! I make mine so that they are 2 V's wide:

Chain 9, turn, (dc, ch 1, dc) (1 V made) in 5th chain, skip 1 chain, V in next, skip next chain, dc in last chain, chain 3, turn,

V in each V, dc in last stitch, chain 3

Repeat untill your scarf is as long as you wish.

This is so fun and makes for a good "brainless" crochet project because there is no stitch counting and if you use some fuzzy, fancy yarns (such as Wal-Marts NoBo brand or Dollar Store yarn like Pebbles) and a BIG hook (N is good and so is P depending on the yarn) it goes fast!

I'm in...already got several scarves on my Christmas list. I have never made a hat, and the one on http://lionbrand.com/patterns/chs-americanaHatAndScarf.html is almost like my most favorite hat I bought several years ago, and its just lost its umph. I'm gonna make the hat for me!! Might even make a couple for gifts if it works well.

Did anybody check out the Puff Scarf CAL? I'm on it too, but i haven't started it. It looks pretty simple too, and a great stashbuster.

I was just looking at the last few posts on the Hat-A-Week cal that was unburied...here's a hat that looks pretty simple to make...http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19676&page=97

I don't have any patterns for mittens or gloves.

Yep...i completely understand. I am using my yarn stash to make 75% of my holiday gifts - i'm thankful i have a stash to fall back on.

Its a wonderful thing you are doing.

Do you have the winter issue of Crochet Today magazine? There is a really cute pattern for a scarf & mitten set - its in kids sizes. Here's a link to the mag:

http://www.crochettoday.com/issue.aspx?issueid=18

And the scarf/mitten pattern information (you'd have to purchase the issue for the pattern)

I've had a set back with my yarn. It still hasn't arrived. I'll need to decide if I can wait a little longer or find a replacement.

In the mean time I'll have to start a different one. ....
