Another Newbie Question - Hook Size

gretelgrrl

Question

Ok, I hope that I am not driving you guys crazy with the questions... :shrug I'm just pretty hopeless on a few things...

I found this pretty pattern (my mom loves butterflies)

www.geocities.com/Heartla...stole.html

Here's the beginning of the instructions:

Materials Required: American Thread Company

The Famous "Puritan" Crochet Cotton, Article 40.

8 balls Turquoise of color of your choice or

the Famous "Puritan" Star Spangled Crochet

Cotton, Article 40.

14 balls aqua Spangle or color of your choice.

Steel Crochet hook No. 0.

60 gold sequins, 74 blue sequins or colors of your choice.

Gauge: 6 sc = 1 inch.

The trouble is the "Steel Crochet hook No. 0. " What size is that in letters? Are there still numbered hooks?

What am I missing?

Thanks :)

Steel hooks, used more for thread crochet, are labeled with numbers, with 0 being bigger and 10 being smaller. a 0 hook in boyle is 3.25mm in size. The aluminum crochet hooks, are in letters (most brands) I use boyle in both, because that is what we have...

The smallest Aluminum hook i have is a D/3.25mm, If i'm not mistaken...(and I am alot) I don't see any reason why if you have a D hook, you couldn't use it instead.
