Newbie/ felting the Haekelbeutel

Hi ladies,

 

I've never felted a project before and know next to nothing about it. Take a look at this bag. I know that projects will shrink, but not sure how much. I'm hoping to make this into a project tote so it will need to be pretty roomy. How big would the squares have to be before felting?

To make this pattern into a large tote after felting, the squares would have to be pretty big. The rule of felting, is that you should expect it to shrink by at least 1/3.

I would suggest making a square (try double strands of wool and a big hook) anwhere from 9-12" wide and felt it. See how much it shrinks and you may want to make it bigger. Felting is never exact I find. When you want something to shrink a little, it shrinks a lot and vice versa. I keep seeing that pattern for the bag and think it would be beautiful felted. Try it out and I hope to see posted pics! good luck
