Pioneer Doll

 

This doll is my first big project and I am wondering about the Gauge, what is it? do I really need to make one?

The GUAGE will tell you how big your piece will be in a way.

 

On this one, the guage is 4sc = 1inch. Use the hook they tell you to and if your 4 sc don't equal an inch, then try adjusting your tension to make it equal the inch. If you can't, you can go up or down in size of needle to make the guage right.

 

 

This doll is 17 inches, so if your guage is too small, she won't be 17 inches tall, she'll be smaller.

The other question is about the rounds it says to join them where indicated does that mean I have do round one and cut it and then do round two and then join them or do them together? ......I know I am probably driving myself crazy with this but I want to do a good job since I am giving this doll to my cousin who after loosing her 1yr old son and her mom (my aunt)within 3 mos of eachother has a healthy baby girl and her mom used to crochet so in a way I feel that this doll won't be only a gift from me but also from her mom. My plan for the doll is to turn her into a Raggedy Ann look alike since Ann is the theme of her baby's room.

No, you don't have to cut your yarn to join. To join means to slip stitch in the stitch indicated, usually the first stitch of the previous round.
