shawl question

Ok, I am new to thread as having only done a few bookmarks.

So I am now trying a shawl with some older thread that seems in pretty good condition.

This is my question.

When working in a chain and doing lets say a dc in a chain, do you work through both of the loops or just one.

My chains are fairly tight.

I go through both loops when working in a dc.

I was taught to go through 1 loop and did that for years until I found a pattern that said to go throught the "back bump". It's a little more time consuming and can make your chain tighten up, so I often chain for 1 hook larger than I use for the rest of the work. It looks so much more "finished".

I go thru 2. You might want to consider using new thread. With the amount of work that is going to go into a thread shawl (I made one - I know) you don't want it to age prematurely.
