Baby blanket pattern

Snikki28

Question

I am a Labor and Delivery nurse and have a lot of good fortune at seeing some beautiful baby blankets (crochet and knit).

Most recently I saw a crocheted blanket that looked liked shells on shells giving it a starburst(best way I know to describe it) appearance. Does anyone know of this pattern where I might find it or purchase it? The mother said it was a gift from a friend at work, and did not anything else about it.

Again it is like shells mirrored each other per row, giving almost a starburst or circular appearance. Appeared to be done in rows, with a shell edging.

Thanks in advance for any help.

That sounds like the Catherine Wheel. Here is a scarf made with this stitch. I know it is in the Harmony guides.

There's a graph on this page:

It's the 4th one down.

The 2nd graph is a beautiful stitch talked about and written out on this topic on craftster. Page 13 has the written instructions to this stitch for an afghan:

I hope this helps.

Could it be the Harlequin Stitch Baby Blanket? Caron Yarns has a 3 pattern leaflet with this baby blanket in it. I can only find it on e-bay.

It really looks like the Catherines Wheel. The Harlequin stitch is similar but I cannot get a closeup of the pic to be 100%. What are the Harmony Guides?

I would love to see them. This blanket was crocheted in all one color and was very pretty. But it seems like it may be a difficult pattern to stitch.

Thanks for all you help. At least I know the name of the stitch now!!:clap:cheer

The Harmony Guides is a wonderful collection of crochet (or knit) stitches, depending on the book you buy. There are 6, and I have them all. Here's a link to the one with the Catherine wheel stitch:

I think it is the pattern at Project Linus. You can get to the pattern by going to Crochet Pattern Central-Afghans. It is the first Star Shell pattern. There is another one below it but to difficult to see the stitch. I would do a swatch of both patterns to see if either one is the pattern you want.
