How big should a preemie blanket be??

I make mine about 16 x 16. Our girls were premi's (twins) and that size worked well for me!

They can vary with the size of the preemie for whom you are making them

I actually like to make my preemie blankets a little bigger since they grow so fast.

 

If you're making it for someone you know you could do something that can be added to later as the baby grows. That could be really neat - different color borders for the baby size.

according to some sites I've seen before, 24" x 24" is about average. Some say 18 x 24, others say 24 x 36. Seems 24 x 24 would be about right for a very small baby.

My (step) greatgrandson was just born 8 weeks early, and was 16" long, so I'm making his first blanket about 24" square. He'll still need a carseat size blanket, too so I'm also working on an oblong one for that.
