Question

Anybody have any ideas on how to turn a five pointed star into a square?
I've pledged myself to making two 12 in squares for Heart Made Blessings Operation Purple Heart. I thought it would be neat to do blue and white squares. So I did up the first four rounds of Beth's Little Star Afghan and now I'm stumped at how to fill in around the star so that it will be a square. I've fiddled with a couple of different ideas, but it comes down to this - the star has five sides and a square has four. (Duh!)
Any ideas? Or was this a pipe dream to begin with?
I'm off to bed, it's 3am here.
Thanks in advance!
