Specialty Yarn Problems

Guest Zebra Rose

Question

Guest Zebra Rose

Hello!

I'm working with a specialty yarn and I need some suggestions for stitches or hooks that would work best. It consistently changes thicknesses (from skinny and tight, to loose, to skinny again) and it makes it difficult to work with. I'm enclosing an image in case that helps.

Thanks for any suggestions!

This type of yarn is typically classified as a bulky, larger sized hooks are best to use with it, anything from an L on up. It's similar in texture to homespun by Lion Brand, and would probably work up pretty nice as a scarf or shawl. Others might have more ideas for you.

I would try to come up with some patterns that might work, but I'm all out of energy for today and already way past my bedtime!

For what it's worth...

Maybe it would help to work it with a strand of something else, depending whether that would be suitable for what you want to make. If it's difficult to work with you probably want to stick to simple stitches, and let the beauty of the yarn be the focus, rather than the complexity of the pattern.
