Nashville Crocheter? Round ripple?

Stitchinpick

Question

Nashville Crocheter or anyone else who has made this, could you confirm the third row for me?

On the Angelcrafts Round Ripple Baby Afghan, the 3rd round says:

ch 3, skip 1 st, *1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in next st, repeat from *

I think the asterisk should be before the skip stitch and SAME stitch instead of next stitch, or written like this:

ch 3, *skip 1 st, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in SAME stitch, repeat from*

I looked at your gorgeous, clear closeup photo, and I think that is what I am seeing. When I do what I think it says, it curls up and does not seem right.

Thanks for the help.

Me again with one more question. Nashville crocheter's blanket looks tighter and less airy than the pattern's picture. I prefer that tighter look and bulk. I am useing the Simply Soft Nashville used, but I only guessed at the hook size. I am useing an I-hook 5.5 mm. Anyway, it looks more airy than I wanted. I am thinking of frogging it and starting over with a smaller hook. What hook did Nashville use?

I think I used a G hook for the blue and yellow round ripple.

As for the question about the pattern,I really don't remember how I worked the pattern. I follow a pattern up to a point and then I "wing" it and make it look right.

So I think you should try it both ways that you said and do the one you like the best. Be consistent once you decide what you want to do and to it for the whole blanket.

I did it my way, as it looked right and came out with the right amount of holes for the points of the star. I just wondered if I was reading it wrong and not understanding. Thanks for the hook size. I have considered frogging it to use the smaller hook, but I have gone too far to turn back now. The next one though, I will remember that size.

Thanks!

I made it with a G hook also. And I do remember thinking there was an error in the pattern as I was working. I just made sure to work it as a ripple. It came out the way is was supposed to. If you think you need to adjust something, do it.

I have finished "round 9" and am having trouble going back to "round 7" for the "small shell". How to I decrease the large shell pattern so that the small shell pattern will fit?:

You don't decrease...just dc in each dc as you have been doing and when you get to the shell only do 1 dc in the chain space, chain 2, 1 dc, then continue on to dc in each dc until you get to the skip 2 dc.

In other words you are not doing 2 dc in row 7 for the rest of the pattern you are following the patten of how to make the "large shell" and the "small shell" and the way you do that is to do 2 dc, chain 3, 2 dc for the large shell and 1 dc, chain 2, 1 dc for the small shell. You dc in all other stitches except when you skip 2 stitches.

So as the blanket getts bigger so do the number of stitches between the skipped stitches and the shells.

Hope this helps,

Barbara

Since this subject has been brought up again, I will do a followup -- I finished my blanket, and it is gorgeous!!!! :)h As I am still recovering from surgery, I do not have the energies to set up a site so I can post a picture. I have a digital camera, and I will take a photo before I give it away this weekend. I have already purchased yarn to do a second one.

I used a 5.5 I-hook and blue, yellow, and white Simply Soft by Caron (a light worsted weight). I used the change in instructions that I typed in the first message. It worked wonderfully.

It is soft and lucious. I need to do another one because I simply enjoyed working on it so much!.

I used an "F" size hook and I seem to crochet tighter then most people. My afgan turned out tightly woven which required quite a bit more yarn then the pattern called for, but it turned out beautifully. The next one I make I'll purchase my yarn in larger skeins. The ones I used were 3oz. and I hated having to add in new yarn that often.
