We are having so much rain, it's time to build an ark:2rain so I'll be staying in all weekend so maybe I'll be able to give the RR a little attention.

Everyone here is an inspiration, keep up the great work everyone, they are stunning.:yes:yes:yes:yes

I have SP stuff I'm working on, and some charity squares to finish - THEN I'll finish the regular RR before doing the extra point one - I do love the look.

I, too, need an ark.....:lol

I am working on another RR (8 pt) but I am not liking the colors this time -- I hate when you have a varigated yarn that doesn't match quite right with any solid colors. It doesn't look bad, but it is not one I would repeat again. I'll post pics soon.

My cousin had a baby boy, so I am sending her the Little Boy Blue. It turned out to be great timing! I did not even know she was pregnant until very recently.

Sue i love your poems and your beautiful afghan.

Everyone one else i hope mine turns out as good as yours are.

Mine is a little on the wavy side but i figure for my first one it is OK.

Thank you Marnie! I was thinking I was getting on everyone's nerves with my "poems" and playfulness. As for you "wavy" rr, I would either tighten it up ASAP or correct it. If you read earlier posts, it won't just get better by itself. There is a post by Colleen aka AggieMay that tells you how to see if you are getting a wave or a bowl by folding your rr in half.

Pat, so kind of you to like my "poems!" As I told Marnie, I was thinking that I was getting on everyone's nerves. So many have quit posting I thought it was from my long posts and ramblings. That is another reason to come south... we are in a drought! Please bring rain!

Hi Judy! It just fills my heart with warmth everytime I hear of someone who is crocheting for charity! :manyheart Have Pat pick you up on the way down to NC to wait the rains out... :devil It has gotten cold here finally, and we can put our feet up towards the wood stove and visit while we crochet!

So Monica, what colors are you using? It is wonderful that you had a "gift of proper gender" to give when needed too!

So, DH and I are at WalMart the other night... I needed to buy more yarn for the new rr I am making for a gift for a girl at work... and I just couldn't help myself! Y'all know the Caron soft yarn with the pretty shine to it? It has just lovely colors too... and it spoke to me! :yes It said, and I quote, "Sue, don't you think a rainbow rr would look grand?" The varigated yarn says, "Look, here I am in just enough skeins and all the colors are also in stock that match mine!"

Okay... so everyone has had yarn talk to them before, right? :think Well, here I am with the most pretty colors and just enough of the varigated to do a rr in a bright rainbow theme when it hits me... What will DH say? I figured I could justify the yarn for the rr as a baby shower gift... but 11 brand new skeins too? NO WAY! :eek

So I turn my buggie around and walk away... Then it happened... :yesThat yarn started shouting at me... It was shouting how pretty it was, how there were just enough skeins of the varigated... again! How I could sell this one and tell DH it is for money! The beautiful shiney soft yarn in it's carressing voice just kept calling me... until I turned my buggie around and put that beautiful, soft, colorful yarn in my buggie! I stood them all up in the seat part... I put the varigated in the middle with the other colors around it... I looked and unlike Monica, these all were perfect matches. The yarn just purred and made little happy sounds that it was in my buggie and feeling quite smug. ;) So here I come down the isle... I spot DH looking around... Here my buggie has a total of 13 skeins of new yarn and he doesn't say a word. No funny or threatening looks... nothing. My heart starts to slow back down. I just ask him what he was looking at... He answers. We leave the store and on the way home it hits me. Of course he isn't going to say something to me about a measly 13 skeins of yarn when we are also bringing home from Best Buy a 28" HD flat screen monitor for his PC! :lol So that was my Friday night! Just had to share how you can buy yarn and not feel guilty!

Sue, this past June I visited my brother and his family in Huntersville. Love the area....they ran away from Long Island a few years ago - pad their house in cash because of the huge difference in prices! So far, since DH has a second, small income, plus pension - and we have my 90 yo FIL to watch over - we're stuck here. Lived in our house for over 31 years...so our roots go deep, esp since we're close to NYC, where we were raised.

:lol:lol Sue that is just so funny and to think your DH was probably doing the same thing wth the flat screen monitor hoping you wouldnt give him funny and threatening looks.

By the way I love your long posts and poems, its great when there is a lot of chatter in here, we are here to chat and get to know one another not just to talk about our crochet. Well thats what I think anyway.

I need to make a Spiderman RR for my grandson, so this would be a good chance. Let me find a pattern and the yarn colors and get ready!

I made one for my son at Christmas time.

:lol Sue, great story! DH took me to Walmart the other day. When he saw my carriage full of yarn (um, about 10 skeins) all he said was "OMG"! Then he grinned shrugged his shoulders. LOL! Most of it was for charity work, and I crochet for therapy while recovering from the brain surgery, so he doesn't complain. It's all good! :D Now, a rainbow RR was one of the choices on my list of RR's to do, lol! Still haven't decided which one to start next. Better decide soon or you'll have another done already! :eek

LavaHalo, welcome! Love the spiderman ghan you did. Yup, that's on my list too!

just wanted to check in and give an update, I have been working on my aztec sun just a bit, I am adding the last set of points now (going from 16-32) and will post a pic after I get them on(hopefully later today). I have 16 rows left after the points and then it will be finished, it is going to be quite large I think, the pattern says the finished size is 60" diameter using a J hook and ww yarn. Mine is measuring 52" now with 16 rows to go! :eek Oh well the more to snuggle up in when it's cold.:) Here is a pic of my progress so far...?action=view&current=DSCN4334.jpg

Sue, this past June I visited my brother and his family in Huntersville. Love the area... Lived in our house for over 31 years...so our roots go deep, esp since we're close to NYC, where we were raised.

Judy, I am right down the road from Huntersville! See, what you do is get a summer home here when the temp is only 85 to 90 degrees and it is the same at night. That way you won't feel much of a difference from FL and you can visit your Bro AND me! LOL Just bring FIL up with you and we'll hook him up with my MIL! :lol

Sue that is just so funny and to think your DH was probably doing the same thing wth the flat screen monitor hoping you wouldnt give him funny and threatening looks.

By the way I love your long posts and poems, its great when there is a lot of chatter in here, we are here to chat and get to know one another not just to talk about our crochet. Well thats what I think anyway.

Thankx Wendy! :hug To tell the truth, I have DH money for Christmas for a new flat screen monitor... but he says, "let me throw some more in and get a better and bigger one!" It is now March and he is just getting his Christmas present so I really doubt he cared what I thought! :lol

LavaHalo

You are now offically a member of this CAL.

You did wonderful work on your rr Gal!

We have some links to round ripples for you,

Pick the number of points, and what type you want to do.

Colleen is the queen of our group with patterns free,

Monica also has some beauties posted for thee.

If you want to add points to your ghan as you go...

We will all be supportive and give some help, as you know.

Once you pick your colors and start your afghan,

Please take a lot of pictures and post when you can.

So, LavaHalo we are happy to welcome you

Just let any of us know if there is anything we can do

:cheer:cheer

:cheer:cheer I know how that feels... No more points but now it takes sooooooooooooooo long to go around for 1 row! It is truely beautiful Lisa! You should be so proud of yourself! :hug

Sue, great story! DH took me to Walmart the other day. When he saw my carriage full of yarn (um, about 10 skeins) all he said was "OMG"! Then he grinned shrugged his shoulders. LOL! :rofl Yea right, me done with the rr first! I did find out that if you visit someone in the hospital that you get a lot of crocheting done! :hook

It is so nice of your DH to be so supportive of your current brain condition! :nworthyIt is just amazing to me that you can crochet at all! :nworthyI mean here I am having issues with a so called normal brain and here you are making great afghans and other items with your brain damaged! :nworthy

Maybe we will do a rainbow rr next! :hug I am going to do 2. One in pastels and one in the bright vibrant colors. I am thinking of just doing them as 12 pointers though... or maybe 8 pointers... Now I am not saying that I might be doing a critter too... in fact, I am making a bunnie to go with the pastel one. I have made a head and body so far. I just needed a break from the jolly green thing.

I have been working on my aztec sun just a bit, I am adding the last set of points now (going from 16-32) and will post a pic after I get them on(hopefully later today). I started the Gentle waves round ripple for my niece but had to frog it cause I couldn't get it to lay flat. It would help if I had read the little print too!! LOL. I think the wave look will be nicer for my nieces. If I figure out the pattern! I'm gonna try to start it over tonight.

Wendy, just what does a wavy rr look like? Do you have a pic to direct me to so I can see one? It sound interesting, in the least! What colors are you using?

hello

wooooow so many ladeis working on RR`s

i loved one RR that is 8 points and it is so amazing

i`m thinking of making one (thanks for wendy {Aussie} for inspiring me with it)

but i`m thinking of a star ghan or maybe 12points RR for now then i`ll make the other one if i had time and motivation :)

So AtHBa, do I get to put your name down as an official member of this rr CAL? Like I said earlier, I plan on being here for awhile doing 2 more. Might even do the 8 pointer too! :yes

So, the pastel rr I am planning to make is actually going to be a design of my own making... IF I can do it. I mean, who am I to try to write a new pattern when I have only crocheted 1. :lol I guess I am just too stubborn to think that I can't! I have several ideas in my head just rolling around and am excited to try them out! It is a variation of the rr but different. I have about 5 ideas but need to work on them before I know it can be done. Oh, I just love creating things! May I ask everyone who is in the CAL and the lurkers... What do you like about the round ripples or actually, what do you like in any afghan?

Here are some things I was wondering about... If you copy and paste and repost, then I can see what draws your attention to an afghan pattern.

Rate the importance of the following... if you would be so kind to help me.

Do you like easy patterns or patterns with a challenge?

Do you like to see multiple pics of the same pattern worked in different color combinations?

Do you like to read patterns, have charts, or both?

Do you like step by step pictures?

What do you wish all patterns had that some do not?

(I like to know just how many stitches are at the end of EVERY row or round. That way I know if I messed up on reading the pattern.)

How do you feel about getting a pattern emailed to you instead of a hard copy sent?

Thank you for listening to me rattle. Hope everyone has a nice week! Back to work for me tomorrow... so I can make for money to buy more yarn... :hook

and to my sissy Melissa aka afswife... miss you and can't wait for you to come home! :hug

I just started my 3rd red round.

CottonCandee, thank you for posting all the links to photos in one place! To answer one of your questions: I love to look at all the color combos and the unique pattern changes ya'll make in some of your RRs.

Sue here are my answers.

Do you like easy patterns or patterns with a challenge?

I like both but if the pattern is just too hard I lose interest. Also if its hard to understand I also lose interest.

Do you like to see multiple pics of the same pattern worked in different color combinations?

Yes nothing better than seeing so many variatiions of color.

Do you like to read patterns, have charts, or both?

I prefer to read patterns

Do you like step by step pictures?

Depends on the pattern but yes, this does help me a lot.

What do you wish all patterns had that some do not?

(I like to know just how many stitches are at the end of EVERY row or round. That way I know if I messed up on reading the pattern.)

Definitely how many stitches Im supposed to have at the end of the row.

I hate patterns where they say repeat row 5.

How do you feel about getting a pattern emailed to you instead of a hard copy sent?

I prefer the hard copy.

just wanted to check in and give an update, I have been working on my aztec sun just a bit, I am adding the last set of points now (going from 16-32) and will post a pic after I get them on(hopefully later today). I have 16 rows left after the points and then it will be finished, it is going to be quite large I think, the pattern says the finished size is 60" diameter using a J hook and ww yarn. Mine is measuring 52" now with 16 rows to go! :eek Oh well the more to snuggle up in when it's cold.:)

Valerie (mva5493)-

I guess we're just about in a tie here! I just started adding the last round of points to my AztecSun this afternoon. This time I am MAKING myself pull throught the ends as I do each point...saving 128 ends to pull through all at once is more than I can stand. Mine measures about 53 inches so far, so I guess they will be around the same size when finished. Might do pictures after the points are on, and the first color after them is added.

Wendy (bearcrafty1)-

Love the Steeler-ghan! I have special ties to the 'Burgh...sister and mother, both relocated NYers, live in the suburbs, and my middle son is a student at Pitt, graduating this semester. I even have the Ben ornament that Hallmark made this past Christmas!

And to everyone else-

Thanks for keeping it interesting and colorful here! Even when I don't have anything to post, I still check in to see what's going on. Every color scheme is different and I am getting lots of ideas for new projects...like I really need an excuse to buy more yarn!

(BTW, AC Moore has RHSS on sale this week for $1.79, and Caron Simply Soft for $1.99) LOL :lol

MMMMM – Your questions are excellent, and I hope I don’t sound wishy-washy

Do you like easy patterns or patterns with a challenge?

Easy patterns are fun and fast, but I suppose I get bored, so something with a challenge is good.

Do you like to see multiple pics of the same pattern worked in different color combinations?

Im a very visual person. I like seeing the same pattern or similar pattern in different color combinations. It often makes the whole pattern seem different with different colors and textures.

Do you like to read patterns, have charts, or both?

Both are find depending on what is needed, but then I like a chart to see where I am and what the final outcome is supposed to be.

Do you like step by step pictures?

Pictures or diagrams are VERY helpful over the tricky parts

What do you wish all patterns had that some do not?

(I like to know just how many stitches are at the end of EVERY row or round. That way I know if I messed up on reading the pattern.)

I tend to lose track of counting, so knowing how many stitches ‘should’ be in each row/round is very helpful.

I find it helpful if the directions are written in a visually understandable way. For instance, most directions are written as though it was all a paragraph of prose. The print is usually teensy, and I need to take the time to write each set of the parts of the directions on lines.

This

Chain 4; slip stitch to form a ring

Chain 3; 12 dc in ring; sl to close

Chain 3; dc in next 3

Sc in next 3

Dc in next 3

Rather than this

Chain 4; slip stitch to form a ring; Chain 3; 12 dc in ring; sl to close; Chain 3; dc in next 3; Sc in next 3

Dc in next 3

How do you feel about getting a pattern emailed to you instead of a hard copy sent?

Either are fine
