Marking a stitch in thread?

I was following a pattern for another PK coaster and it said to mark a stitch. I have some stitch markers (sent by lovely FGMs), but they were waaay too big for thread work.

 

What do you use for marking a thread in a doily or other thread work?

I've used a contrasting color of thread to mark a stitch.

I have some very small safety pins that work fine.

I have various sizes of safety pins that I use to mark stitches and hold my stitch when I put something down for the day.

do you have any old lever back earrings???or the fish hooks wire ones??

those work well. i have even used small paper clips in a pinch.

I use the real small safety pins. Have always been my favorite stitch markers.

Me too, teeny safety pins.

I like bobby pins, because I can slide them on and off one handed!

I use contrasting thread. That's how I use up any odds and ends of thread I have.

left over threads or sewing threads, small stitch markers sometimes I use them in the loops of the patterns but as in a actual stitch, then I use a different color of thread or sewing thread.

I have used bobbi pins and some little circular plastic rings that slip on and off.
