"snowflake mondays" a past post i had seen UPDATE WEEK #4

tangled up

Recommended Posts

I should really start back up on my snowflakes...especially before the first snow comes down.

I need to make some more, too, it is the only snow I'll be getting for Christmas :hook...

Cheers,

Finally found my large eyed needle and got ends woven in last night. I now have 20 of them soaking in soapy water.. today I will rinse and try to starch some of them.

I discovered that a few of the ones I had made from "Russian" diagrams actually turned out to be 8 sided.. so I think I'll frog them and redo. The 12 point one .. probably redo also, as while there are occasionally 12 pointed snowflakes (according to something I looked up somewhere.. can't recall the source now) it doesn't want to lay flat and I don't think starching will improve it.

:yay

If you are a stickler for 6 point snowflakes you do have to vet your patterns carefully as there are quite a few 8 and other # of point flake patterns out there... I think that all of the ones we have listed are 6 point or 12 point (6 main points with 6 subsidiary points) flakes...

Good work :)

Ran across another that I don't see on the weekly list...

It's on the coats and clark site under crochet, then free patterns, then seasonal (just telling ya'll this in case the link doesn't work).

http://tinyurl.com/Coats-Clark-Snowflake

I tinyurl'd the link so it wouldn't break.

Enjoy.

Got all but 3 of the 20 snowflakes I had ready pinned out. Was gonna make a pic, but the digi cam is missing.. LOL.. isn't that always the way?

Ha.. found the camera this morning...Showing them pinned out (some of the Aussie flakes too.. I think they turned out quite nice).

Hi All,

I have a suggestion for week 49. Please let me know what you think about http://www.jpfun.com/patterns/free/ornaments/f103020lacychainssnowflake.shtml

We're getting near the end! I'm so glad I joined you for this geat CAL. I have a book of 46 completed snowflakes ready for gifting (I'm a little behind!) or hanging on my tree, I've sent a few out as gifts already, and lots of new friends:hug.

Now I have to ask myself, "What will I do next year?" :lol

Is there another CAL we could all join?

Already missing you,

:fire :fire:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire(can' t get much warmer!) regards,

It's lovely. I'm printing it off right now.

Is there any chance we can keep this CAL going for another year. I know I have two more snowflakes that I haven't posted yet, which would give us a start. I might even try my hand at coming up with some more. :lol :lol :lol I hate to think of us breaking up at the end of the month. :thumbdown:cry:thumbdown

I am happy to try doing this again next year... I was thinking the same things, too :ghug

I certainly have a couple of snowflake designs percolating about (I just can't figure out how to finish them off to my satisfaction :lol) - I would certainly commit myself to some number of designs through the year. Would people mind if we used some of the suggestions we got this year that did not actually make their way onto the official list?

I am sure we could make another year's worth if people were not too tired of them :yes... we will need to start a fresh thread on January 1, though...

I'm not a designer yet, but I'll join you next year, making snowflakes.

I didn't get to participate with you this year.

:yay

We love having new participants! And you can always feel free to hop in for the last couple of weeks if you need some holiday flakage :flake:flake:flake:hook

I'm in for next year.

Has anyone tried the Aunt Lydia's Bamboo thread for snowflakes? I've got a ball and am using it and it is soooooooo soft. I like working with it, but wonder how stiff it will get with the starching.

I used up a whole skein of Baroque. Had never used it before and really liked it. Of course, now that I like it, our WMart stopped carrying it.. LOL.

I have tons of thread, but very little white.. guess I get to go shopping. yippee!!

I've never tried bamboo thread. I have a few skeins of Caron's Spa in my stash. It's really soft! It's a ww and soon to be a scarf. Please let us know how the thread works once you get them starched.

Happy Crocheting,

Hi,

I'm caught up! Yipppppeeeee!

I did make a slight change to one of the patterns. The week # 48

is very pretty but I'll confess I'm a 6 sided purist. Here's my version:

th_DSCN0002-6.jpg

And, Wanda, I've made the first snowflake from the "flakes of &$%#" page. http://aww.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=27469

It's maybe my least favorite snowflake ever! :rofl

I even made one of the dreaded third pattern - it's not blocked yet. I have a sinking feeling that I may have twisted one or more of the branches... only the starch and pins will tell. I'll post a pic when it's done. It wasn't as bad as I'd thought. It must be all my picot experience I've gained this year! One more observation on these: The fourth pattern doesn't seem to be the one in it's picture. I haven't investigated this yet but the directions don't seem to match whats in the pic. I think it's a picture of #3.

:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire:fire regards,

Let me know.

Lynn, welcome aboard. :welcome Feel free to jump in any time. We're absolutely going to keep going in 2009. I haven't done all of the flakes for this year yet, but I'm printing off a copy of all the patterns and putting them in a 3-ring binder so I won't lose any of them. I'll just keep going with the binder with the ones for next year. Who knows, we might even bring back a favorite or two from this year for next year. :manyheart
