Hi,

We have at least 5 snowflake patterns that I think will be affected.

Weeks: 3, 11, 14, 28, & 33

Please see http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=87477

Does anyone have any suggestions on what we should do?

I wondered if there's any way to contact the designers and ask if they'll be moving those 5 pages anywhere? Maybe they'd be interested in posting them here in the ville's free pattern thread.

What do you think? It might be posiible to contact the designers through the sites till Oct 31 so we need to move quickly if we want to try it.

Please post your ideas on this.

sincerely,

Nancy

I think it is a good idea... school starts again tomorrow, I may have a chance to check on some of this on Tuesday...

Back from the weekend away, but :yawn... verrrry tired!

I made Linda's Texas Flake while away - very nice, a bit larger than I expected... I think I'll try it again in a finer thread as well - it should be a decent size even in 20 or 30 or so... and that may highlight the lacy bits more, too :)

No ideas for a flake at the moment, but perhaps after a :sleep

:hi! Everyone!

Have a good night Marika. I like Nancy's idea, or check to see if they have a blog and the pattern is there. AOL is not doing away with the blogs.

:yes I am in the middle of the 4003 on the **** row that everyone was talking about. I printed up the conversion suggested here and the clearer pic posted, but haven't completed it yet.

Are there any links in the past that have more than 1 snowflake that we only did one? Or should we go a :flaking?

Hi Carla,

You've been busy! There are some very nice flakes there. If I had to choose just one of them I'd go with the beaded one(s).

http://www.daintycrochet.com/Highlightsnow.html

But they're all nice. So, lets hear from the rest of the flakers.

The tablesetting is gorgeous. Maybe someday.... :D

BTW:

I sent an email to one of our AOL designers (weeks 11, 28, & 33) asking if she'd consider crochetville as a replacement spot to re-post her patterns. I'll keep you posted if I hear back.

I read that Pricilla's (week 3) is planning a move to another site - we'll have to watch for the new address.

I'm still looking for contact info on the third designer. (week 14)

Carla, I believe the first one os on our list already.

The snowflake dinner set is breathtaking.

I'd probably agree with Nancy that I like the Blue Highlight beaded snowflake the best for the coming week. I feel my time is running out online at the moment (sounds of "more choc-it!" from my 2 y.o. son... ah! he has snaffled the rice crackers, I may have a few more moments before he reclaims the computer!)... I will try to post an updated list sometime today... :D

Cosmo, lookin' good... I'll check out the info after posting this, then follow up...

I've just done a couple more snowflakes... I thought I'd better get on the ball for my ornament swap and Christmas in Ireland ;)... I've made a Star-in-Star ornament for my ornament swap in my gold-wrapped Altin Basak thread and my friend has put in an order for 10 for her Christmas tree :hook... I'm thinking maybe I'll do both silver and gold for that... ACK! Too much going on.

How're the costumes coming, Cosmo?

Cheers all!

Nancy, did you send the email through the Ville (wynterwren) or via her AOL page? (Just curious :D)... I tried tracking down #14 and got diverted to another dead page... BLAH!

Thanks, Marika for the info....

:embar I didn't know wynterwren was a member here or even that wyterwren was the designer! lol

I sent an email through the aol site.

And, Thanks for asking about costumeville. Things are just Smurfy here!

6 done - 5 to go.

I have Vanity, Handy, and Jokey Smurf and Smurfette + a tiny one for Max (the dog), and Mine - I hope you don't mind too much Marika I'm dressing as Wanda this year. :lol

Next it's on to Duffman - My nephew is big into the Simpsons and asked for the super hero form the show. He's the beer guy/super hero. Did I mention my nephew is 30? :lol

Then it will be bowling pins for three and then talk DH into the Cosmo suit. :yes

With a little luck I'll make it in time for Trick-or-treat night and the parade. :clover

:fire regards,

:mdust:mdust:mdust Cosmo :mdust:mdust:mdust

Sounds like all is well in hand :yes... I do not mind you appropriating my alter-ego... just treat her nicely :P... Perhaps DH would take it better if you put it to him that the other option, were you to maintain the verity of your alter-ego, would be for him to dress as Wanda :rofl I think, under the circumstances he is getting off lightly :D....

I just did some hand blocking of some :flakes... I cannot seem to find my blocking board and pins :eek... I know they are around here somewhere, I just have to remember WHERE! Pics to follow when I get around to uploading everywhere :yes

Cheers for now and ta, muchly :D

Oh my goodness!!!!

The last time I visited was week 17 or so!

I'm on #6..... :(

IU've been really out of it, working more hours, busy busy busy with the kids.

It looks like you have found and made some beautiful flakes!

I doubt I'll catch up by Christmas, but at least I know where to find a ton of flakes!!!

:yay

Welcome back! No worries! As you know, we do not mind if people have done all the flakes, we just like to hang out, :crocheting and be :flakey :D:hook...

(At least, I sure hope we don't care if you've done all the flakes :blush:lashes...)

We understand. Heck if you didn't have to spend all your time keeping the rest of us fairys in line you'd have three of each, blocked, starched and hanging in your Christmas tree already!

Thank goodness we have you. :hug

I agree. When I joined this CAL, I let everyone know that I may not do all the :flakes, but that didn't keep me from visiting everyone here. Well at least once a week :rofl.

I have to temporarily archive this thread to remove a bunch of links and references to a site that is not allowed by Crochetville's filters. When our filters don't allow working links to the site, we also can't allow discussion of the site by name.

EDITED TO ADD: Nor can we allow any information on that site to be disseminated to other members here, whether by post, PM, or email-a-member feature. I really don't want Crochetville to get hit with massive fines and legal fees related to contributory copyright infringement. We don't have the money to pay them, so Crochetville would have to be closed.

Sites can appear in our filters for a number of reasons:

--hosting copyrighted/trademarked patterns/images without stating they have permission of the copyright/trademark owners

--material that is not in keeping with the child-friendly atmosphere of Crochetville

--other possible reasons

Never mind what I wrote below. Apparently I'm too-brain dead to be working on the forum right now! I just didn't recognize some of our own forum smilies for some reason.

I was on vacation all last week at Disney World with the family, came down with a tummy bug on Monday (the one that had my husband in the hospital at WDW getting rehydrated last Thursday night), and my laptop died yesterday, so I've been at a friend's business today frantically dragging all my data off the hard drive (still functional thank goodness) before the laptop gets shipped away for repair (AGAIN).

Sorry to worry any of you all. There's no problem with the smilies (other than me)!

In addition to the problems with all the links and references to the website not allowed by our filters, I've noticed that quite a few people have been posting smilies from other places in their posts.

Unfortunately, that's a problem with our guidelines. Please use only the smilies that we provide for you here. The ones we have are being used in full compliance with the policies of the sites from which they were taken.

Some smilie sites have specific rules for use that state credit must be given every time we use them. We cannot be responsible for verifying that all outside smilies are being used with permission, so it's much easier just to have everyone use the smilies we provide.

I'm going to have to take some time and go through posts to remove all the outside-source smilies, so it may be awhile before I can return this thread to the CAL thread. I just wanted to let you know why it may not be available for longer than I originally anticipated.

Amy,

I'm sure we all want to say thanks for all your work. Running crochetville is probably a full time task without adding all the extras of family, vacations, and flu bugs. We really appreciate your work.

I hope you (and Hubby) are feeling better now. :hug

I'm going to propose we replace the offending week's posts with approved links. We have lots of past flakes that were part of multipule listings. Some of them should do nicely.

If everyone agrees, I'll volunteer to look for suitable replacements by this Sunday.

Fellow flakers,

Please post your ideas on this.

A resounding second on the thanks for all the work, Amy. Thanks for cleaning out the mentions of the site, I blanched at the thought of organising all of us to re-edit our own posts :eek. Hope you and yours recover soon :).

Good to know that about the smilies, too... I have seen some non-C'Ville ones around the boards, but must admit I am too lazy to go abroad looking for smilies :lol... will make sure I don't ever copy and paste :yes.

Sounds good to me, Cosmo, I was thinking along the same lines... if you are happy to pick suitable replacements, that would be great... I need to do some serious stressing about my first crochet class on Monday, so that will obviously be keeping me busy this weekend :P... (a friend has volunteered to be my guinea pig - she is coming over today to get a first lesson... so I'd better run and get my stuff done to be ready for her arrival in the early afternoon...)

Like you need it! I'm sure you'll do a great job. I'll bet you have your hook warmed up and ready. I have lots of questions: Can I ask what the project is?

Does this mean we should call you Professor Wanda? Where can I sign up? ............

Do you need anything? Yarn? Extra hooks? ...........

Please keep us posted.

No specific project as yet (perhaps a fatal flaw?) My thinking is that we will make 6" squares of the main stitches (sc, dc, perhaps hdc, granny, perhaps a row-oriented stitch-chain pattern and/or shell pattern and/or grit stitch type thing...) then, depending on how many squares they make, they can choose to assemble them in different ways: open-topped cube to use as a storage basket, small bag/purse, baby blanket, scarf, etc. Those will be in an acrylic/nylon blend... If I can get some cotton I like (and that is not too expensive or splitty), I may try circles and have them make coasters with cotton...

If you are a praying person, you could send up a prayer for me to find one more 4.5mm hook. I started swatching in my 4.5mm hook, expecting to get 8 at my big craft store - only to find that all 3 major craft stores, plus KMart, which stocks some yarn and needles and hooks, were totally out of that size! I did manage to get 8 packs of plastic hooks, but the one size they skipped was... 4.5mm!! :eek

Today I was going through the dollar shop looking for something completely different and BAM! there was a display of knitting needles and hooks (and the major brand ones, too - Pony, which is what I have been swatching with, COOL!) But I could only get 7 hooks and I have 8 students enrolled... So now I am hoping I can find one more hook - or hope that someone won't mind my gently used one :lol...

I prefer the appellation "Wanda Sensei" ;)... and you can sign up here, though the commute might be a bit of a killer :D...

Thanks for the support, Cosmo... I am SOOOOO glad Amy cleaned up the thread rather than permanently archiving it :manyheart.... You da best!

Dear Wanda,

Of course you're in my prayers. Heck, you're even in my wishes. (:2blush that's the fairy in me!) Right now I'm wishing you had a "Good Luck" charm. Hummmmmmmm.... I guess wishes have a long commute too. Please be patient and keep an eye on the horizon.

I'm sure your class will be terrific,

and if one student gets an "experienced" hook they may outshine the rest with it!

Have fun,

Hi all,

Since Linda is having computer problems I thought I'd a post a pic of my version of her snowflake pattern from last week. Once she's back and can post her own I'll move mine to show and tell.

I hope I did her pattern justice.

th_IMG-12.jpg

Thanks for posting the picture for me. And thanks for all the compliments on it. Computer at home is still out and I don't get a chance to get to the library very often it seems. I miss all of you. I've been very busy on Christmas presents lately, so my snowflakes are falling behind.
