Megan-great work on the socks ! I'm so proud of you .

I actually found 2 more skeins of sock yarn yesterday at our goodwill store-- from Germany --- done in shades of grey and greens. The other color i bought was greys and reds ...

I also have the needles needed to start them.

NOW to find the time ... seems to be in short supply lately .

I finally got several sets of dpn's. I'm making baby socks that you only use two ndls. I frogged it three times before I remembered the correct way to do the ribbing. :lol I also printed out two patterns for adult socks. One is the Moonlite slipper socks that I "think" Megan is making. I might be wrong about that. Haven't started it yet but I will soon. The only problem with starting it is it calls for size 5 dpn's. The largest I have is 4.75 mm's. I think I better look some more for other patterns. Maybe for children's socks or other baby socks. Anyone have any ideas? :think

I love sherri's socks. I'm trying to make a pair but I'm stuck!! Here's the pattern link:

http://www.******/easbabsoc.html

It's made on two needles. I got the ribbing done, did the heel part then got stuck. Here's where I can't figure it out.

Using left needle, pick up 10 sts along side of heel (the trick to making this heel look good, is to pick up these sts along side evenly spaced & knit them very tight), knit them, then continue across 19 center (instep) sts.

I ended with 7 sts on the needle like it says. Then I picked up 10 stitches along the side. So all together I should have 17 sts on the needle.

then continue across 19 center (instep) sts.

How and where did 19 come in???? :think :think Where did I go wrong? Could someone look at the pattern and help me figure it out? I really hate to rip it out. Thanks for the help.

Sherri, your socks are wonderful.

Pat A., sorry, I don't have a clue. I'm still on straight knit and purl.

Thanks. I think I'm okay on straight knit and purl. I just want to learn making socks. :)

I wish I could help you out but I haven't started on socks yet. Did you look at the sock tutorial that has been listed maybe it can give you a clue of what to look for. Wish I could be more of help, :think try www.knittinghelp.com I am quite sure someone can help you there. As for my cable scarf I have not worked on it this week for I am taking the beginner's Filet Crochet class, but after the class is over I will be back to knitting. Hugs :manyheart

Thanks cheeria. I took a quick look and will go back when I have more time to look. I found a few more sock patterns and another basic baby sock pattern to try. Hopefully I could do one. :lol

Pat:

What they are talking about is knitting into the side of the heel. It's like crocheting into the side of your stitches. Then the you have 17 stitches, the 19 stitches comes from the heel ones.

That's a link to the part on the tut I use to make my socks. She shows LOTS of pictures of how to pick up stitches on the side. It'd one with dpns but picking up the stitches is still the same either way.

Thanks Megan. That'll help when I get to that point. But the socks I was trying to make is only done on two needles and is flat. You sew it close when its done. It looked so cute in the picture. :lol But I think there is one part in your directions that I might try to do different this time that I think it'll give me the 19 sts I need. I'll try it and see if it works. Thanks again. :):yes

Oh I wasn't trying to confuse you at all. I was just showing you that page because it shows you how to pick up stitches on the side of a heel.

I know you weren't trying to confuse me. :yes That page IS very helpful. And when I get to that point in this other baby sock pattern I'm doing with dpns I'll go back and look at it. This one I've :2frog'd so much times I could've made 5 or 6 pairs of socks already. There is one part there where you knit for 3 rows and when I do it's the purl side I see when it's supposed to look like 3 rows of knit. I did it over so many times and it was the same. Then I looked at it better and it looked like it was inside out. I figured out that I was knitting inside out. :lol So I tried to start it a different way and I think it's right now. I remembered I had the same problem once when I was crocheting in the round. Then this afternoon I was knitting and my yarn got sucked into the round floor fan that was in front of me. I had a hard time getting the screws off so I can untangle it. The yarn got cut and I had to cut off the ones that was wound too tight to take off. I just realised I'm writeing a :book book. :lol I'm going to continue working on my sock for a little while untill I get sleepy. See you tomorrow.

I have a question for those who made or ar making socks right now. What method of casting on are you using? I've tried the long tail and another method I don't know the name of but could be a variant of the two ndl cast on. Both are tight for me making the top of the ribbing tight. I can't do the larger size ndl than you're using to cast on cause I'm using the largest size dpn I have. What I did is hold the ndl I'm using with the smallest ndl I have together and doing the long tail cast on. Then when I have to number of stitches I need I slide out the small ndl. It makes the rest of my stitches looser than I normally knit. But thats okay for now. This is just a practice pair I'm trying to make. Could anyone give me some comments on how to do better on my cast ons for socks? Thanks for any and all help. :)
