Weighing yarn

I have lots of left over yarn. Could I use my food scale to weight it?? Would it be accurate??

It depends on the scale. If it's digital, it's probably pretty accurate. Test it with something that has the weight marked on it, like an unopened loaf of bread or a can of soup. If it's close, then it's good enough for the yarn.

Like Catana said, it depends on the scale. Some will only weigh to the ounce, which isn't going to be terribly accurate. The smaller the denomination, the closer you'll get to actual weight.

 

I've been weighing my smaller balls on the scales in the science labs at school... those go down to the hundredth of a gram but that's a little too close for me, I have been marking the balls to the nearest gram.

 

Yarn weighing has kept me sharp on my conversions, LOL...

I use my digital postal scale that I have at home. If you have a food scale, weigh something that weighs 1 lb and see if it's accurate and go from there.
