Trimming a felted item?

I have no idea if this is a dumb question or not, but can I trim a felted item with scissors and not have it fall apart? I am making a hat that has a felted brim and the size of the brim is just a little too long.

 

Can I trim it up a bit or do I need to make a new brim?

Yes you can cut it The nice thing about felting is that you can shape and cut after felting and it won't unravel or fall apart.

 

If you don't like the look of the cut line just wet it and rub it a little until the cut look goes away.

Yes, as a matter of fact I just did this to a hat. The brim was way to big a floppish, so I cut it off and redid a new brim.
