Knifty Knitter

Recommended Posts

I love my knifty knitters, its the only way I can knit anything .. I'm all thumbs when it comes to trying to knit with needles. I have both the round looms and the long looms, along with an 18" small gauge knitting board from www.knittingboard.com I love all my looms. I made this scarf on my pink long loom from a pattern I purchased from Denise Layman at http://www.knitchat.com/ So far I have made three of these scarves. One in purple jiffy, one in blue wool ease and this one in Wool Ease Pines. Enjoy

My son and I both use my looms - round and long - and have made several hat and scarf sets. I am presently making a paneled afghan using a white, light green, medium green and will put the panels together with a dark green. I am using the purple long loom and each panel is 90 inches. Each panel is about 9 or 10 inches wide - 5 of them - and the dark green will be about 4 or 5 inches wide. I am basically winging it as I have not seen a pattern like this. Two panels start with 10 rows white, 20 rows light green, 30 rows medium green repeated 2 more times. Two panels start with 10 light green, 20 medium green, 30 white. The 3rd one will be 10 med green, 20 white, and 30 light green. It is really going quite fast and is very easy to do. Looms are really a lot of fun once you get going with them. I have also taught several other people how to use them.

I have managed to get a handle on using the round looms, but the long ones leave me flustered. I always have so much slack at the end of a row and I don't know what to do with it.

It has been a cold winter for me, (thinking it's the age thing setting in). I bought some gorgeous Yarn Bee thick boucle yarn, and doubled it to make ME a warm winter hat. It tuned out so heavy and pretty. I have also bought a hat loom from Decor Accents, but has of yet to use it.

There are a few patterns out there for doggies. I used this pattern to get me started. I didn't read the directions much but relied on the photos to show me how to do the leg holes. I used the blue KK loom. I made a hat brim for the neck part. My chihuahua is 7 pounds but built with more girth to her chest (like her momma *hee hee*). The first attempt was too small. I gave it to a neighbor with a sleeker chihuahua. I tried again and made the loops extra loose (same loom). It worked much better. You can see the results on my blog.

Here are a few sites for other patterns:

magic dog sweater

Shandie's sock sweater

Hope this helps!

Hi Lady, :)

Thanks for the links. Do you know of any good books that explain using the looms for more advanced knitters, and the different stitches?

There are some ebooks here:

http://www.loomknitting.com/catalog.php?category=1

They're not free, but they're not terribly expensive, either. I have the long loom ebooks, and I like them.

The same site has some other books for sale.

I've been loom knitting for almost 3 years, so if you have questions or need help please don't hesitate to ask. I'm currently working on some baby blankets for Pine Ridge using my afghan loom.

Tracyskat....are you trying to knit a panal? If you have too much yarn at the beginning of your rows I think it is because you are supposed to knit off the last stitch every other row, not every row....here are some good sites with lots of info on how tos and different stitches etc.

I think knifty knitters are good starter looms, but they are a larger gauge than I like to use. So far my favorite knitting loom is my extra fine gauge sock loom I bought from http://www.decoraccentsinc.com/ Here's a picture of my loom with a sock on it. flower power sock

I didn't know they were made this small! Those socks look great! Did you ever finish them?

Well then you all have brought up all the links I would have given! heheh

I am Denise Layman the editor of the online magazine Loom Knitters Circle!

There are some great books out too mine.. Learn to Knit on Circle Looms,

Then there are Learn New Stitches on Circle Looms, Learn to Knit Cables on Circle Loom, &The Loom Knitting Primer. There is a sequel to the Loom Knitting Primer called The Loom Knitting Pattern Book which will be available in May! (I have three designs in that one!)

You can find these all on Amazon!

Basically anything you can make with needles you can make with a loom and there are some great crochet quatlities to the looms that I am exploring! I am working on some Loomigurumi designs and my Vintage Shawl is more of a crochet than knit peice! It is available free at my website www.knitchat.com

There are many looming possiblitlities!! I don't know if anyone mentioned www.loomknit.com that is a great site for patterns and Videos..

Well I am rambling and dinner needs to be cooked!

Later!

Denise

I have all 4 of the round ones, 5 of the long ones (4 in one package and 1 sold separately) plus I have one that is about 4.5 ft long. I have taught a co worker how to use them plus boss's wife. They all made hats for Cmas gifts. I have some girls that I teach at church that make scarfs for missionaries. They are great and A LOT easier than knitting and comes out looking the way way. I have found that using 2 strands works up better.:hook

I've reciently tried the knitting looms. I have the rectangle one and the little one to make icords and some how little animals. I think it will take me a while to figure them out. But I would like to learn how to make the hats when I have the money for them.

I've made scarves and hats. After awhile I just got bored. The hats and knits I've made looks really nice. I found out knitting is actually easier and more fun for me to do than the kk as CDG(Cindy) metioned in the earlier thread. But I have given the KK set as gifts to my friends' girls to get started on crafting.
