Attaching crocheted critter parts

Catana

Question

I have some little bags crocheted in the round that I really hate. I was going to frog them or just throw them out, but had the brilliant idea of using them to start critters. When you add legs and such to the body, do you sew them on or crochet them? If crocheted, what's the best way--slip stitch?

I've never made critters, so I'm totally at sea with this.

It depends on the pattern. My pig and bear are sewn on after I crochet all the parts. I did a bunny that was all one peice and the only thing sewn on was the head & ears. Most of the patterns I have require sewing the head, feet, ears, etc on (whip stitch). I must admit that is my least favorite part, but one it is done they are cute as can be.

Thanks, truelove. I figured sewing was probably the best way if the parts are crocheted separately, but it's my least favorite part, too. Whip stitch isn't bad though. I'm not using any patterns, so this is going to be strictly "by ear". Really want to get right onto them, but I have a scarf and bag set to finish, and the plan for a new kind of bag is nagging at me. Need to get that UFO button up on my blog!
