As a native New Yorker....long A for me...:)

 

I have a very HEAVY Brooklyn accent although I have never lived there...but both my parents were from Brooklyn.

 

These days my youngest daughter "shows me off" to all her friends on the "funny" way I talk. :(

 

Maybe I should charge for this Florida attraction???????:laughroll:laughroll:laughroll

Well I was born and raised in NY but as long as I can remember I've always said it as if it was a long I. Skine. :think

I always pronounced it Skine because of the German thing too! But then a friend of mine told me its with a long a sound so I say it that way for the most part now.

I am actually from Mass. but if you were to listen to my voice you would swear that I am really from Texas. So, I had to ask my husband how I pronounced the word.
