I have a very HEAVY Brooklyn accent although I have never lived there...but both my parents were from Brooklyn.

 

These days my youngest daughter "shows me off" to all her friends on the "funny" way I talk.

I always pronounced it Skine because of the German thing too! But then a friend of mine told me its with a long a sound so I say it that way for the most part now.
