2sc in next sc

janiemay

Question

Hi there,

I am sorry for this incredibly basic question. It probably has one of those obvious answers that I will end up just saying "oh, what a fool I am."

So, I am making this baby blanket and it says all these fancy little things, and one of them is:

2 sc in next ch

or

2 sc in next sc

Now. Does this mean that I actually do 2 single crochets in the same stitch? I wish I could explain to you how odd this looks when I do this.

So I do a single crochet, and then in the exact same stitch I do another single crochet? Wouldn't that be a double crochet? I mean, I am doing two singles twice, aren't I? Blahhh!

The pattern is here: http://rosylittlethings.typepad.com/TiramisuBlanket.pdf

Thank you for any help you can give me!

Janie

Hi and welcome to the forum! :hi

Yes, you will be working 2 sc in the stitch that is indicated. This is either an increase needed to shape the pattern correctly or to form a certain stitch. Nothing to feel foolish about...we've all had similar questions at one time or another. :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. That is not a silly question at all. I had a hard time trying to figure out all those stitches myself and kept going online to try to find out how to do it. Stormy is correct in that you will put two sc's in the same ch or stitch. Here are some of the places that I like to go to for instruction when I can't figure something out:

Remember that there is always someone here ready to help at any time. :hook I am looking forward to seeing your first completed item.

There are no silly questions when learning!

As to your question about it being a double crochet, the answer is no. A double crochet looks different than 2 sc in one stitch. For one, a double crochet is taller.

2 sc in one stitch is two sc made side by side in the same loop. You would not sc in the sc you just made but you would make another sc beside the one you just made (in the same space). Then continue to sc in the next stitch (or whatever stitch the pattern called for). Single crochet increases are usually made to add stitches & make a piece get bigger. When you do the next round or row, you'll crochet in all stitches unless the pattern calls for skipping stitches. I hope this helped make it clearer to you.
