Color changing

meowy

Question

I am having serious issues! :think

I know how to do this in knitting but I'm getting really yucky results with crochet. I made another of the AJ's Bags, and I changed colors to make some stripes. But the edge where I tie color on is a bit manky. In the end I had to seam the one side up about 1/2 an inch inward to make the stripes line up so it'd not look all spazzy down the side. It looks okay, but I'd rather know how to do it right so I can make another bag for my neice without the strange edge seam hehe

Is there a trick to adding a new color and keeping stripes nice and neat along the edge? Tried to search but the only word accepted in the search was color, the rest are too short eek.

Argh I forgot what my other question was now. Oh well, I'll think of it when I go back in there to work on the edging probably hehe

The standard way to switch colors at the end or middle of a row is to insert the hook into the top of the turning chain or whatever the last stitch is on the row, yo with the new color and pull through. Then proceed with the pattern, when you are finished you will weave in both color ends in preferably opposite directions. You can hold the end over the top of the stitches and stitch over it several times to secure it if you want, but I have always preferred weaving end at the end of the project. This method should produce an smooth color transition.

Changing colors in crochet is easiest if you do as Christine says. It works with any stitch you're working with, just work your stitch to the last 2 loops (if it's a dc or bigger) then pull the new color through the last 2 loops.

Chatty and CraftyChristine are right in changing colors. I just learned how to do it right in crocheting myself. :D

Just remember don't tie the colors on. It just makes a lump. Don't forget, you can carry the yarn behind if you are making vertical stripes so you don't have so many ends to weave in. :hook :hook
