I don't understand, didn't they even scan the delivery confirmation in front of you? I have never seen one of them not show up on the system if they scanned it.

I dont recall her scanning it. I called this afternoon and she said that with delivery confirmation it will only register in when the package gets to the post office of where it's going or when it is delivered. She told me I can file a complaint against the base post office and gave me a phone number to do so and said I cant do anything until 30 days have passed. I told her that if the package does not arrive by friday that I will call and complain about my 2 packages being lost within a month from eachother.

Chelle,

I think you should call the 800 today. I think your post office isn't following procedures. <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/really.gif" /> Did she at least postmark your green receipt?

They are supposed to scan the package when they take it from you. Here's a package I sent last week 0300 6000 0003 5575 9768 (It doesn't show names or address so I don't mind posting it) The tracking system is supposed to show the accepting post office like this

ACCEPTANCE, December 20, 2004, 1:36 pm, OCEANPORT, NJ 07757

The "acceptance" part shows up the day you send the package . When it's delivered, it adds

Your item was delivered at 11:02 am on December 22, 2004 in CLEARWATER, FL 33765

I sent another package on Monday, it got from NJ to AZ in 2 days.

Argh. I just did some digging on the USPS website, it says:

Delivery Confirmation service provides verification of delivery or attempted delivery, no additional scan events are promised as part of this service.

Electronic rate Delivery Confirmation (including Click-N-Ship®) may (but is not required to) include the date and time of when it was picked up or accepted for shipment.

Retail rate Delivery Confirmation that is brought into the Post OfficeTM for mailing will include an acceptance scan

I would think yours went retail rate, so they are supposed to scan it, but they have some wiggle room to say they aren't required to.

They can't require you to wait 30 days to file a form, that is only suggested. On the page about delivery confirmation, the suggested time is only 15 days. We're not quite at 15, but I think you should file the lost mail form 1510 now and make a complaint against that branch specifically.

This stinks <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/mad.gif" />

Irregardless of the package being scanned, it still has an address on it so it should get to where it is going. We know you dropped the package off, so I have serious concerns as to what that particular post office branch is doing with the packages. If you've lost two packages from there, you have to guess you aren't the only person. Call the 800 number and file a formal complaint, whatever you have to do.

We ship out of this house on average 10 - 15 boxes a week. All over the US and around the world to Japan and all points in between. Our teeny little one woman post office has never lost one of our packages since we started three years ago, and whichever lady it is scans each package in front of us while we wait no matter how long of a line there is behind us. From that I can only assume that something is not right at your post office branch. Call and file a formal complaint. Be the first person or magic number 10 that maybe forces someone to investigate.

Oh I absolutely think there is something not right with the post office. I never had any problems with them before until right before Thanksgiving when I sent off the first package, and now right before Christmas. They are right here on base which is why I went to them instead of driving into town. I thought with the first package that it was one of those "packages get lost here and there" type of thing, but now with two gone this is just ridiculous. And these were very important crochet items - not easily replaceable. I feel horrible. My husband and I will be filing a complaint. I feel like someone took these on purpose, maybe seeing that there's insurance purchased on it so they think it's ok. Any of the other items I mailed with the first package (two manilla envelopes to Canada) did not have insurance and were received just fine, but the package that did have the insurance never made it to the recipient. Same for this time, Tiff's box got to her ok with no insurance on it but the comfort ghan box had insurance and is now seemingly lost.

I'm so glad to hear it made it safely. :yay I missed out on the delivery confirmation posts, but I can say I don't think I've ever flown through posts so fast while praying the next one would be good news. :)
