Are some buttons illegal?

Is it illegal to make a button for a site that is not your own without being asked? I have a few sites that I would like to have buttons for but they don't have any. The sites are online homeschool magazines and the like. Just curious.

I wouldn't think so. It isn't much different than making a link to that site.

You could make a botton for them, but I would not use any of their Logo's on your botton. I would just put their name and that way to do not step on dear ol' copywrite.

Are you talking about for your own personal use or for a whole bunch of other people to use?

 

Making one for your own personal use should be okay, but you shouldn't use their logos or any pictures/text from their site unless you have their prior permission.

Have you looked to see if they have any link to us buttons? If they're sites you frequesnt regularly you might want to send a courtesy email. They probably won't care but it's still a nice thing to do,
